MBT technique requires the use of light continuous forces. This is the most effective way to move teeth, being comfortable for the patient and minimizing threat to anchorage.Light forces are especially important at the start of treatment, when the bracket tip puts demand upon antero-posterior(A/P) anchorage and when it is important to minimize patient discomfort.
Essentially there is need for the orthodontist to use thin, flexible wires early on,with minimal deflection, and to avoid too frequent archwire changes.
Also the clinician needs to recognize the signs of excess force, such as tissue blanching, patient discomfort, and unwanted tooth movements(like roller coaster effect),and take steps to avoid this.
